Steve Smith think his team unlikely victory over Pakistan on Friday in the second Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground will give his team confidence as they prepare for stiffer challenges against India at the end of the home summer.
Even though rain reduced the game to a final day contest, Australia routed the visitors for a mere 163 runs to win the Test by an innings and 18 runs in the final session.
“It can give you the that belief to know that you are never out of the game or you can pull a win out of your hat from nowhere. Hopefully, the guys can take a lot of confidence out of the way they have played this week”, Smith told reporters.
The win give Australia an unassailable 2 nill lead in the three match Test series, a valuable shot of confidence for a team in transition.
Australia rebooted after being soundly defeated 2/ 1 by South Africa, but have now won their last three Test in a row. Smith was criticized for his captaincy by several ex Australian players after Australia narrowly won the first Test in Brisbane by a mere 39 runs.
