Wellington, New Zealand: Shakib Al Hasan is the third cricketer from Bangladesh to compile three thousand Test runs, the dynamic all-rounder reached the landmark during the second day of the first Test between Bangladesh and New Zealand at the Basin Reserve on Friday.

The left-handed batsman needed 71 runs to reach the landmark before the start of the Test match, he was given a life at 4 and capitalize on his good fortune. Shakib who is considered to be one of the best all-rounder in the world eventually was dismissed for a magnificent 217, the highest Test score by a Bangladeshi cricketer.

He erased the previous record of 206 set by Tamin Iqbal 206 against Pakistan at Khulna in 2015. His splendid innings was compiled from 276 balls with 31 boundaries.

Shakib is also only the fourth sub continental player to score 3000 runs and take 150 wickets in Test cricket. He has a tally of 159 with his slow left-arm orthodox bowling. The others are Kapil Dev and Ravi Shastri from India and the legendary Imran Khan of Pakistan.
