India v Bangladesh, only Test, 2017 – Let’s have a look at the numbers

Bangladesh are looking to challenge the Champions at their backyard for the first time in their cricketing history. Bangladesh are charged up to deal with the might of Virat Kohli and Ravi Ashwin. The excitement in Bangladesh regarding the one-off Test is tremendous.  Here is some statistical preview of the only Test between India and Bangladesh starting from 9th  February.

Before going into the record book, let’s have a look at the overall figure between teams which consists eight Test matches in 17 years, with India winning 6 of those.

Like the previous year, 2017 is too busy for cricketing fraternity and India’s home season starts off with only Test against Bangladesh. They are arriving for the first time in India to play a bilateral series against the hosts. They have played three tournaments so far India, including Triangular series along with India and Kenya in 1998, Asia Cup 1990 and last year’s World T20.

The conditions here in India are much familiar for Bangladesh as Continental pitches behaves almost same and turning track helps spinners fairly. Bangladesh’s last Test in sub-continent was one of the greatest achievements in their history when they defeat England for the first time. On the other hand India beats same opponent 4-0 in five-match Test series.

Let’s go into record books where runs scored and wickets taken from both the sides. Indian players have the upper hand in each section, but Bangladesh players also have shown versatility which may reflect in this Test.

The Batting Maestro

It defines itself the player talking about. India’s batting legend master blaster Sachin Tendulkar has distinguish record against Bangladesh in seven matches he played. His blade always shines when it is Bangladesh. His career best 248 not out came against them and he averages more than 100 in his career against Bangladesh.

Pace attack

Indian sub-continental pitches are said to be spinner friendly, but pacers are quite effective when it matters against Bangladesh. Though Bangladeshi spinners are effective against India, Indian pacers did fair for their team.

Though most of India players played against Bangladesh are retired from Test cricket and young Indian team will have to face bit experienced Bangladesh. Before the start, opener Imrul Kayes rules out due to the injury and Bangladesh could be worried as the same thing happened on New Zealand tour. Soumya Sarkar, who replaced him in New Zealand is likely to open along with Tamim Iqbal.
