Thibaut Courtois was signed ahead of the 2018-19 season preferred over the legendary Kaylor Navas. The journey of Courtois had been scratchy at the start, but with the progress of time, he seems to be getting his mojo back. Playing in La Liga is nothing new for Courtois. But at times even the best experiences a lean-patch.
Courtois has resumed training and gave an interview to UEFA’s official media.
Here are the excerpts:
On returning to the training
There was a lot of desire to return to training and we’re all doing very well. The first week was strange because we had to train individually, but we’ve been able to do more things in the last few weeks by training in groups.
Furthermore, I haven’t lost my touch of the ball with my hand.
In the first training session after two months, I realized that I hadn’t lost anything. That’s why I feel prepared for what is to come.
On the safety protocols
There’s a protocol that you have to follow, although there are things that we’re not used to.
We noticed it in the first week, where we had the goalkeeping coach, but he couldn’t shoot at us or even pass to us.
It’s strange to start with, but we’ve got used to it.
The style of training
Training in groups, we’ve already had shots at goal and the outfield players are now working on possession.
For example, goalkeeper training has been the same as I’ve been doing for my whole career.
We’ve been really looking forward to those rivalries in training, of 11 versus 11 games, of laughing together…
We’re doing it bit by bit, passing through phases, and we’re training with the protocol for now.
