After a scratchy period, Real Madrid have started to come back like the past. Still, that Midas touch is lacking, but the kind of determination, Zinedine Zidane, and the Los Blancos and resolve Florentino Perez displayed paid rich dividends. The title has been confirmed and the smartest club President of modern football Perez was asked by media about some of the details of his plan of action for the summer, regarding transfers and contract renewals.
Marca explained about the topics, which Perez would be focusing on:
The contract renewal of Sergio Ramos
Ramos’ contract is set to expire in 2021, so it’s time to start thinking about the captain’s future.
“It is up to the president, but I love it here and everyone knows that I want to end my career here”, Ramos said.
It is clear that the feeling is mutual for Perez.
“He will be here his whole life, he is more than just a captain for us as he has led the side to great success”, the Real Madrid president said.
“He is very happy here”.
With both parties wanting the same thing, a renewal shouldn’t be too difficult to organize.
Forbidden signings and the Mbappe links
In terms of new arrivals this summer, it was already reported that there won’t be any major signings due to the current economic situation and the COVID-19 pandemic.
This is something that the Real Madrid president echoed in his comments on Thursday night, particularly when asked about the possibility of bringing in French striker Kylian Mbappe.
“The situation is very bad and it is very difficult to ask the players to lower their wages whilst making big money transfers”, the president said.
“Future signings of that nature [Mbappe] will have to wait, but as soon as we can Real Madrid will start making those kinds of signings again”.
“Unfortunately, we don’t know when we will be able to make these signings because of the difficult situation we find ourselves in”.
“We lost 25 percent of income with regards to the stadium”.
The future of Zidane
The Real Madrid president was also questioned about coach Zinedine Zidane.
“The other day I saw a tweet that said Zidane had won a trophy for every 19 games in charge”, Perez said.
“He is a blessing from heaven and hopefully he will be with us for a long time. Those who want to criticize him can do so, but he will continue winning titles for us”.
The Santiago Bernabeu
The biggest current project that Real Madrid have right now is the redevelopment work at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
This has been taking place around the clock since it became clear that this season would be completed behind closed doors.
“Work on the stadium should be finished by the summer of 2022”, Perez revealed.
If all goes to plan then Real Madrid will start the 2022/23 season in their newly improved home.
