At the moment, the youngster from Spain and Barcelona, Ansu Fati is the poster boy of world football. Already he has been tagged as one of the greats of the future, even though, still, he has a lot to prove to claim a place among the greats in football. It is just the early days for Fati.
Luis Enrique has called for patience when discussing the 17-year-old.
In a press conference, published in Marca, The coach of La Roja dismissed the notion that he’d build a system around Ansu Fati or around any player.
“It’s not about building a system around him, as the team is above everyone, but we can do some things if we think it’ll solve matches,” he said when asked about this in a press conference on Tuesday.
“There’s no system built for one player. The system is the team.”
“There’s a need for calm with Ansu Fati, to allow him to grow as a person and as a player.”
The coach when on to discuss the fact that Spain don’t have a world-class striker at the moment.
“Any coach would love to have a figure like Harry Kane, Luis Suarez or Marco van Basten,” Luis Enrique said.
“But we don’t have this kind of player, so we’ll try to create a lot of chances and to score goals through many options.”
“There will be a lot of rotation of players and of positions up front, where we do have very good forwards.”
“Our midfielders can also score goals, it’s a collective thing.”
The coach was also asked how different it is to have three fixtures during this international break instead of the usual two.
“I’d like to have more training sessions, but we’ll adapt,” he said.
“It’s the same for all national team coaches right now.”
“In the friendly against Portugal we can try things out and we can prioritise rest and giving minutes to those who need it.”
The friendly against Portugal will take place on Wednesday night at the Estadio Jose Alvalade in Lisbon before UEFA Nations League matches at home to Switzerland and away to Ukraine.
