The Champions League clash against Borussia Monchengladbach would be a do or die situation for Real Madrid. This season has not been a smooth-sailing for the defending champions of La Liga and in the tournament, where they are always regarded as the undisputed champions; they are at risk of slipping to the UEFA Europa League.
And for which, the match against Borussia bear a lot of importance – the match, where the pride of the club would fully depend!
In that match, they would be having their leader – Sergio Ramos – back in the side.
The big man has been missed badly but now he is ready to make a comeback.
Marca reported, “The central defender took part in full training alongside his teammates at Valdebebas on Sunday, having recovered from an injury picked up on international duty with Spain in November.”
Real Madrid overcame Sevilla to kick-start one of the most important weeks in the history of the club. The return of Ramos would be a huge boost because, without Ramos, the record of Real Madrid in the Champions League is not chummy.
Many of the club’s historic and humiliating defeats like against Juventus and Ajax at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu or against Manchester City in England this summer have happened without Ramos on the field.
Without Ramos, Real Madrid have also lost two group stage games against CSKA Moscow, against Paris Saint-Germain and, even this season, the team has twice fallen to Shakhtar Donetsk.
According to Marca, “What was made clear at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan was that the players will fight to the death for their coach, knowing that they are a bonded team and they showed that on the field, even without Ramos, who leads that belief.”
The return of Ramos will likely see him line-up alongside Raphael Varane, with Nacho making way, though the latter could compete with Lucas Vazquez for the right-back spot in place of the injured Dani Carvajal.
The defensive fragilities have been a headache for Zinedine Zidane and he can breathe a sigh of relief with the return of his captain. Ramos is not only the best center-back in the world but also, he is widely regarded as one of the all-time best center-backs in the history of football.
Obviously, Los Blancos would need his experience and leadership qualities to get out of the critical situation.
