When the going gets tough, Zinedine Zidane gets tougher.
Real Madrid, like Liverpool, have been badly hit by injuries and COVID-19 this season; still, the World Champion has not given up, rather, decided to fight back and keep going for the ultimate accolade.
After the Champions League away victory against Atalanta, the time has come to face the challenge of Real Sociedad in La Liga.
In the press conference, he shared his views about various issues which have been posted at MARCA.
Isco had a good performance against Atalanta in the Champions League and could be in line for more minutes against Real Sociedad on Monday, but Zinedine Zidane has warned that it won’t be the player’s fault if he doesn’t feature much.
The Frenchman explained that he only has a limited number of minutes to give out and that there are many players, even more now given that some have recovered from injury.
“I have to distribute the available minutes, which isn’t easy for a coach,” said Zidane.
“But, we’re always going to count on Isco. It’s not Isco’s fault [if he doesn’t play].
“He can play in two or three positions and not in 40 positions.”
“He’s working hard and he needs to have patience, ready to go out and perform like he did the other day.”
Discussing the injury situation in the team, Zidane was asked about the fact that many players are nearing a return
“Injuries are inevitable and can happen in a team and we’ve had many this season,” he said.
“But, I’m a positive person so I’ll look at the positive side of this issue. I’m happy that little by little we’re getting our players back. Tomorrow we’ll see who I’ll pick.”
Discussing Sociedad, Zidane had praise for their style.
“They’re a team who knows how to play well,” he said.
“We’ll be at home and we want to keep collecting points.”
“The season is long and there are still many matches left.”
“We haven’t won anything yet, so we have to continue.”
“I don’t know what will happen tonight [in Villarreal vs Atletico Madrid]. We can watch on as football fans, but we should focus on our own performance.”
“There are 42 points in play. Our focus is on tomorrow and only that. It’s not on three weeks ahead.”
“The title race is still open. You say that today it’s a three-team title race, but tomorrow you might say another thing.”
“In critical moments, this team prevails.”
