The Colombia journey in the Copa America 2021 has not been that bad in the end. After fighting and neck and neck against the favourites Argentina in the semifinals, they would leave Brazil with their heads high after a poor start. In the third place play-off against Peru, they came out as the winners and completed a tournament with a lot of positives to take.
Peru started the match confidently.
Yoshimar Yotun’s eft footed shot from outside the box was the first real intent within six minutes which went tad higher.
Oscar Murillo’s header from the centre of the box missed to the left that was assisted by Juan Cuadrado with a cross following a set piece situation. Then, Edwin Cardona’s right footed shot from outside the box was blocked.
Gianluca Lapadula attempted a shot from the centre of the box that was close, but missed to the right. A shot by Luis Diaz from the right side of the box is saved in the centre of the goal.
A shot by Sergio Pena from a difficult angle on the right is close, but misses the top right corner.
Yerry Mina header from the centre of the box misses to the left. Assisted by Juan Cuadrado with a cross following a corner.
Both the teams were searching for goals and it was Peru who struck first.

At halftime the score remained 0-1 to Peru but after the break drama unleashed.
Cuadardo sent the ball into the Peruvian net from a corner within just four minutes into the second half.
Cuadardoa nd Diaz were a nemesis for Peru and in the final third another combined play let to save and Peru were weathering the storm of the duo.
After an hour Luis Diaz put Colombia ahead.
And with eight minutes remaining, Gianluca Lapadula header from very close range to the bottom right corner – Peru equalized and yet another penalty shootout was around the corner.
A Miguel Borja shot went wide and during the stoppage time Luis Diaz scored the winner to seal the match.
