Paris Saint-Germain(PSG) had dazzled during the Summer Transfer by signing some of the heavyweights of world football. Sergio Ramos and Lionel Messi have added extra-glamour to PSG, who, on paper, look an unstoppable force in Europe, but the greatest striker of all time – Ronaldo O Fenomeno – thinks otherwise.
The current Real Valladolid president pointed to his time at Los Blancos as evidence that a strong squad on paper will not necessarily translate into winning Europe’s most desired prize.
“It is still too early to say who will win the Champions League,” Ronaldo said in an interview with DAZN as part of the ‘El Presidente’ series.
“The picture begins to take shape at the quarter-final stage. Paris Saint-Germain are in pole position, but its one thing to talk and another to play.”
“There are many factors that influence the outcome on the pitch. I played for Real Madrid for almost five seasons, in the team of the Galacticos, and I never won the Champions League.”
“Winning is never automatic, even if you have the best players in your team, and that also applies to PSG.”
When asked if he sees any similarities between himself and PSG star Kylian Mbappe, Ronaldo was clear.
“Yes, he has similar attributes to me. He has incredible qualities, with a remarkable technique that he executes at great speed,” the Valladolid president noted.
“He gets past defenders, he goes past goalkeepers… And, despite being very young, he’s already come a long way. I like Mbappe.”
