Real Mallorca sat deep in the first half an hour with Real Madrid struggling to break down the hosts’ solid defence despite dominating the ball from the off.
In fact, it was Luis Garcia’s side who
produced the first clear-cut chance in the first half. Nacho Fernandez blocked Angel Rodriguez’s strike from inside the box, but the rebound fell right to Pablo Maffeo who hit the woodwork.
Real Madrid hit the ground running after the break and pressed high up the pitch in their attempt to disrupt Mallorca’s building from the back. They did trouble the hosts’ defenders and managed to make the most of an Iddrisu Baba mistake outside the box to open the scoring through Vinicius.

The Brazilian forward was particularly active for Los Blancos and managed to win a penalty, one which was converted by the French striker with 12 minutes to go.
Benzema netted his eighth goal in five games after heading home from a cross sent into the box by Marcelo, who had just come off the bench to replace Ferland Mendy.
In their unsuccessful bid to pull one back, Mallorca missed a couple of chances through Kang-in Lee and Vedat Muriqi in the second half’s stoppage time.

The bad news for Carlo Ancelotti is that Benzema, Mendy and Rodgyro Goes all limped off the pitch after picking up knocks just a few days before the Clasico against Barcelona that is scheduled to take place on Sunday at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
