The Peruvian men’s national team secured fifth place in the Conmebol qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with a 2-0 victory over Paraguay on Wednesday at the National Stadium in the capital Lima.

In a party with an Inca flavor, the Peruvians were one game away from qualifying for the second consecutive World Cup, since they participated in the intercontinental playoff four years ago in Russia 2018, this victory meant the official elimination of Colombia and Chile.

Peru 2 Paraguay 0

The match was won by Peru with two goals scored in the first half, the first at minute 5 by Ginaluca Lapadula and three minutes before halftime, Yoshimar Yotún put the final numbers.

Peru will face in June the winner of a match between Australia and United Arab Emirates, both games will take place in Qatar.

Venezuela 0-1 Colombia

The Colombian national team broke a streak of two consecutive participations in World Cups and despite having a great generation of players became the biggest disappointment of the Conmebol qualifiers, their last game was won in Puerto Ordaz as a visitor against Venezuela and they took a useless 1-0 win with a goal by James Rodriguez from a penalty in the last play of the first half.

Uruguay 2 Chile 0

Chile again missed out on the World Cup, in the same way as in Russia 2018, and this time they said goodbye in the saddest possible way, losing 2-0 at home in Santiago to Uruguay, who already had their ticket to Qatar 2022, the goals of the Charrúas were scored by Luis Suárez at 79 and Federico Valverde at 90.

Brazil 4 Bolivia 0

Brazil closed as the best team in the Conmebol qualifiers with a 4-0 away win over Bolivia in La Paz. The goals were scored by Lucas Paquetá (24), Richarlison (45 and 90) and Bruno Guimaraes (66).

Argentina 1 Ecuador 1

The day ended with a 1-1 draw between Ecuador and Argentina in Quito, both teams had already qualified for the World Cup. The Albiceleste opened the scoring at the 24th minute thanks to Julian Alvarez’s goal, while in stoppage time Enner Valencia tied the game.
