Chelsea leave late to beat West Ham United

Christian Pulisic scored a dramatic late winner to give Chelsea a much-needed 1-0 victory against 10-man West Ham United at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Chelsea had been in poor form at home, losing 4-0 to Brentford and 4-2 to Arsenal in their previous two home outings in the Premier League, and that looked set to continue as they laboured, unable to break down a well-organised and determined West Ham defence.

Craig Dawson in particular had stood out for the visitors, but his 86th-minute sending off changed the game. The defender fouled Romelu Lukaku to give away a penalty and received his marching orders following a VAR check.

But Jorginho was unable to capitalise, tamely rolling his spot-kick into the arms of West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski.

However, moments later, with the West Ham defence adjusting to being a man down they were finally beaten when Marcos Alonso’s low cross from the left was finished with aplomb by the United States international Pulisic to earn Chelsea all three points.
