Nineteen years later, it was time for his followers to repeat the feat at the same venue in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in a nervy contest against one of the best teams of the competition – Spain. Its back to back gold medals for the Selecao and at least, the pain of losing the Copa America Final would relieve a bit.
Brazil overcome the Mexico scare
The memories of the London Olympics Final in 2012 have still not faded where the best team of the event – Brazil were stunned by Mexico. That defeat led to the sacking of coach Mano Menezes and the appointment of Luiz Filipe Scolari, who showed a lot of promise but ended up with eggs on his face a year later. Anyhow, anyone knows that Mexico are a nemesis for any team in the Olympics and the semifinal contest would be the tougher one. Indeed, it was a tough contest and this time around, Brazil overcame the Mexican scare.

They had been a tough nut to crack in this event and tested the opponents to the limits. Ivory Coast and Germany experienced it previously and today, it was time for Brazil to experience the same, even though, the Selecao were able to strike three times and advance to the next round.

Brazil returned to the country where they won the World Cup back in 2002 and at Tokyo, the opposition was the Germans who were the opponents at Yokohama. After the defeat at Maracana the Brazilians were hit psychologically and there was no option other than shinning in the Tokyo Olympics and in the end, the Selecao started their campaign with a victory in an entertaining affair.
